Software Engineering Manager - Search

September 5, 2021
Seattle, Washington

Job Description Details

Zulily is a retailer obsessed with bringing our customers special deals every day. Unique products from up-and-coming brands are featured alongside favorites from top brands, including clothing, home decor, accessories, toys and gifts. We are fast-paced, innovative and metric-driven, passionate for delighting our customers.

We are expanding our Search capabilities and are building a team dedicated to providing Zulily customers with a personalized, fun, and engaging Search experience. We are looking for an experienced technology leader and innovator who will own Search at Zulily.

What makes this role different from a myriad of other technical leadership roles is impact. When you ship a feature, it is going to be visible to the world through our mobile apps and the site earning you bragging rights in front of friends and family.  When the AB test for your feature turns positive, you become the talk of the senior leadership meetings, because the feature drives millions of dollars in customer demand. When you come up with a cool idea that inspires our customers, a Mom out there will be able to find a cute rain jacket for her toddler drawing questions “oh, where did you buy that”? at a neighborhood playground.

The success in this role rests on five pillars.  First, it’s about Leadership skills. You have a track recording of inspiring your team and setting a great vision for it.  You invest into professional growth of your engineers.  You tackle performance challenges head-on. Second, you have some serious technical chops.  While we don’t expect you to write code or do technical design on a day-to-day basis, we will check both skills during the interview, because we don’t believe in people-only managers.  Third, you should be able to own schedule, juggle priorities, run sprints, etc.  Fourth, you are excited about solving problems using technology. You are the team’s cheerleader. Fifth, you act with empathy and respect.

If this reads like someone you look at in the mirror, give us a shout – we've been looking for you.
